1968 Side-lift Jack BMC Part No. AHH6538 An original BMC Side-lift Jack as supplied with a 1968 MGC Tourer. Although well used, a little TLC will restore it to its former glory. It appears, however, that someone in its hard life decided to remove the top cowling covering the winding mechanism and the spot-welded shield has been prized open and then re-secured with a hexagonal bolt. This will be rectified and restored to an as original condition. The body of the Jack is Red while the jacking bar and winding handle indicate what would have been Black. The winding knob is of wooden construction and would have been varnished/lacquered in its natural state.

Restored 1968 Side-lift Jack Finally, the Side-lift jack that was supplied with the MGC when I purchased it from the second owner has been restored to its former glory. The Side-lift Jack was stripped and cleaned and the original tone of Red paint was found within the body of the upright. This was colour matched and eventually sprayed to 'as original' condition. The wooden handle was removed, sanded to remove grease and indentations before being varnished. The winder and lifting bar were stripped to bare metal, prepared using Por15 Rust Preventative paint and finished in Satin Black paint. The cowling on the top of the Jack, which had been removed in its earlier life and re-attached with a nut and bolt, was replaced and spot-welded to the gear housing. The Side-lift Jack now forms part of the restored Tool Kit which compliments this 1968 MGC Tourer model. |
