6th May 2001

With Pendeen Vintage Rally following hot on the heels of Marazion Vintage Rally the previous day, the 2001 season is now well underway. Once again, club members met at the Fox & Hounds for an early drive in the sunshine down the peninsular to Pendeen on the North Coast of Cornwall. An MG TF1500, 1967 MGB GT, 1973 MGB GT and 1975 MGB Roadster were joined on the Hayle by-pass by Bill Peake in his 1971 MG Midget.
The Football field at Pendeen was buzzing with activity when we arrived at 11.00am with steam tractors already fired-up and the Tannoy blasting out pop music. As we made our way across the field, many heads turned to see the convoy of fine specimens of the MG marque to take our position. As on the previous day, cleaning kits were the first to emerge to remove dust, flies and grass that had been collected on the journey.
We were soon joined by a further number of MGs who completed our line-up giving a total of ten in a row. This proved an attractive sight for visitors to Pendeen and one which I hope will be repeated over the season. It was nice to see old friends again and many expressed a wish to join the Cornwall MG Owners Club at the social nights at the Fox & Hounds. We look forward to seeing them and they will be made very welcome.

Of course you can have too much of the sun, especially when it is in such short supply as we have seen lately, and it does have an unusual effect on certain people, as can be seen from the picture of Alan. With the roof down on his MGB, the sun on his forehead and the wind in his hair, he had the feeling of deja vu and obviously thought of the heady days of Tiger Moths and 'stringbags'. Poor thing, still nothing a good lie down in a padded room couldn't put right!
To sum up - yet another beautiful day in the company of very nice people with exceptionally presented cars. What more could you ask for?
